While not auditing key financial statements or IT applications, Corporate Audit Department (CAD) builds their team through an engagement program called CADFUNctions.

To kick of 2016, the CAD FUNctions’ Awareness committee began researching local volunteer opportunities, ultimately landing on Atlanta’s local Meal on Wheels (MOW) chapter. We saw it as an ideal choice and one that offered flexibility and served a noble cause. MOW Atlanta helps support our city's cold, hungry and forgotten seniors through meal services (packing and home delivery), home repair services, senior care and companion services programs, and more. Three small groups of CAD volunteers assisted with meal packaging during multiple sessions in April, May and June.

Not only did it allow us to provide value to the MOW organization that relies heavily on volunteer support, but it also provided a teambuilding opportunity to interact with colleagues on a personal level and through a common cause. CAD volunteers graciously took time out of their schedules to participate.

When all said and done, through three volunteer sessions, 13 CAD members contributed more than 100 hours to help pack more than 2,000 meals for Atlanta’s senior community. We also developed a healthy partnership and key contacts at MOW Atlanta that can be leveraged in the future.

“Volunteering at Meals on Wheels in Atlanta was very rewarding, it not only allowed us to come together in order to give back to the community, but it also provided us with an opportunity to interact with coworkers outside of the office," said Morgan Rowe, senior auditor.

Brandon Berry, principal IT auditor, added, “It was amazing to connect with my fellow CAD colleagues while also playing a part in helping to meet a basic need for some of the senior citizens in the Atlanta community.”

We learned that volunteerism at Coke is not only part of our company’s philanthropic mission, but also a dynamic opportunity to grow in fun and engaging ways, which will hopefully inspire and reward all parties involved.
