We spoke with DJ Cassidy to find out more about the new album and the tracks he selected for our Spotify playlist.

1. Please can you explain the concept behind your forthcoming album Paradise Royale?

With my debut album, Paradise Royale, I set out on a mission to bring the greatest and most universal dance music of all time back to nightlife, back to the airwaves, back to the dance floor. I began deejaying when I was ten years old. It was my dream to play all music, for all people, all over the world. By the time I was eighteen, I was living that motto, performing around the globe, not only at the hottest nightclubs, but at some of the most iconic events of my time, and for some of the most revered cultural leaders of my time.

No matter where I was, no matter who was in front of me, no matter what kind of music those people expected to hear, one sound proved truly universal. Through all my travels and experiences, I grew to view the Soul music of the late 1970s and early 1980s as the greatest and most universal dance music of all time. The classic records of that era make everyone smile and they make everyone move.

Four years ago, I embarked on a journey to bring that infectious sound, spirit, and emotion to young people today. To do so, I united twenty-two legendary musicians of that era with thirteen renowned recordings artists of my generation to create original anthems of celebration.

2. If you were to recommend a classic record from back in the day to introduce your era of inspiration to a new generation, what would it be and why?

I believe the greatest party record ever recorded is Michael Jackson's "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough." There is simply an unexplainable magical quality about this song that makes people of all kinds, shapes, and sizes continuously move and groove to its explosive rhythm and melody. It is the perfect dance record and the perfect symbol of the most universal dance music of all time.

3. Tell us about the songs on your Spotify playlist and why you chose them.

When I began my journey to create my debut album, Paradise Royale, I made a playlist on my computer called "Songs Of Inspiration." I put these songs in chronological order and they all fell between the years of 1978 and 1982. I wanted the songs on my album to capture the sound, feeling, spirit, and emotion of these tracks. Then, I made a list of every musician that played on each of the songs. I noticed that each musician had not only played on more than one of the songs, but had played on at least several. It became very clear the producers and recording artists of the greatest songs of this era were recruiting the same session musicians. These were the architects of the sound, the men behind the music. To achieve my mission, I knew I had to go the source; so over the past four years, I reunited twenty-two of those iconic musicians for the first time in over thirty years to capture their definitive sound with no samples, no covers, no interpolations, no machines.

4. We believe happiness is better when shared. Please can you pick a song from your playlist and tell us who you’d want to share it with?

I would share Alicia Myers' "I Want To Thank You" with my parents to show my appreciation for my tenth birthday gift…two turntables and a mixer.

5. Lastly, what are your plans for the year once the album has been released?

When Paradise Royale is released, I plan on traveling the globe, spreading the joy that this music brings to party people around the world.
