More than 250 guests recently joined the Ambassador of Brazil Luiz Alberto Figueiredo Machado and Olympic Gold Medalist Nalbert Bitencourt at the Ambassador’s Washington, D.C. residence to celebrate 100 days until the start of the 2016 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The April 27 event, sponsored by The Coca-Cola Company and Nike, featured authentic Brazilian food, music and an exhibit of Summer Olympic Torches curated by the Coca-Cola Archives. The largest collection of Summer Olympic Torches ever displayed spans 80 years of Olympic excitement: from thre 1936 Berlin Torch to the 2016 Rio Torch. The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the Rio Torch and the opportunity for guests to have their picture taken holding the iconic symbol.

The Olympic Torch exhibit remained on display in the Ambassador’s Residence during Passport D.C. “Around the World Embassy Tour” on May 7. More than 40 embassies opened their doors to DC visitors and residents.
