It was a day to remember in Rwanda. On June 13, Coca-Cola Chairman and CEO Muhtar Kent joined Rwandan President Paul Kagame and many others to launch the country’s flagship EKOCENTER and celebrate a new model for social and economic development.

EKOCENTER is both a community center and a store. In Rwanda, Coca-Cola has brought together 10 partners from the “golden triangle” of business, government and civil society to make a transformational impact on communities. At the flagship site in Ruhunda, up to 25,000 local residents will benefit from a new mobile phone tower built by Ericsson, 3G coverage and internet access provided by TIGO Rwanda, a refurbished health clinic thanks to MedShare, revitalized water purification technology provided by Pentair, the only fully lit football pitch outside Kigali thanks to Philips, and a solar-powered EKOCENTER providing basic goods and Coca-Cola products, run by Solarkiosk and operated by a woman entrepreneur.
