It’s also, of course, a day to relax and enjoy a day of football on television. And it’s the day we all have changed our calendars to a new month and new year.
In the Southern U.S., one of the food traditions includes putting a silver dollar in a pot of black eyed peas. The person who gets the dollar in his/her bowl will have good luck for the year. Another custom involves eating greens such as collard greens, kale or spinach to bring money.
Whatever traditions you observe on January 1, I hope that you all have the best of luck in 2009.
