In an ongoing effort to expand throughout China, The Coca-Cola Company opened its largest production facility in the country in Yingkou, Liaoning, on March 29, 2012. The facility—the Company’s 42nd bottling plant in the country and its third in Liaoning—spans more than 170,000 square feet and is expected to produce a range of Coca-Cola products, including Coca-Cola, Sprite, Minute Maid and Ice Dew.
Creating Local Jobs
The plant’s benefit to the community is significant, as it creates 500 Coca-Cola jobs and generates another 5,000 opportunities at supporting companies.
Muhtar Kent, chairman and CEO of The Coca-Cola Company, noted that the new facility is “an important step by Coca-Cola to assist in the development of local communities throughout China."
Area government officials agree. "This new Coca-Cola plant is a welcome addition to our local economy, as it will create new job opportunities for local workers and introduce new technology to foster industrial development and modernization for Liaoning Province," says Xue Heng, vice governor of Liaoning Province. "We look forward to working with Coca-Cola to help make this project a success."
With the opening of the new plant, the Coca-Cola China system now employs more than 50,000 people throughout the country and has created an additional 500,000 jobs outside the Company.
An Ongoing Commitment to China
The new Yingkou, Liaoning, plant, which represents a $160 million investment in China, is part of Coca-Cola’s ongoing three-year, $4 billion investment plan in China, the largest and fastest-growing consumer market in the world.
Last year, on a visit to Shanghai, Kent explained the company’s commitment, saying: "China is one of our most important growth markets in the world as we work to achieve our 2020 Vision goal of doubling system revenues and servings this decade. The new investment is a part of our long-term commitment to invest in innovation, partnerships and a portfolio that will enable us to grow our business in a sustainable and responsible way."
Coca-Cola’s 2020 Vision is part of the company’s plan to “get ready for tomorrow today” and will help guide the company in its effort to achieve sustainable, quality growth, with a mission to refresh the world, inspire moments of optimism and happiness, create value and make a difference.
