Who better to help you navigate your seasonal travels than the busiest and most efficient holiday journeyman of all time?

Thanks to a partnership between the Waze traffic and navigation app and Coca-Cola, mobile users can download a seasonal option featuring the stylized voice of Santa Claus himself before their drives.

The Santa voice, created and recorded by Coca-Cola, kicks off Waze-navigated routes with quips such as, “On Dasher on Dancer on Prancer and Vixen. Let's go!” before offering turn-by-turn directions. St. Nick also marks the end of the ride, saying, “You have arrived at your destination, you deserve a refreshing Coca-Cola!” among other holiday-cheer-filled phrases.

In between, he peppers directions with “Ho, Ho, Ho"s and calls for Rudolph to reroute, when necessary.

And when Waze users are nearby Coca-Cola retail customers, such as 7-Eleven, CVS, Kroger and Pilot/Flying J, a customized Santa image will appear alongside a reminder to refresh with an ice-cold Coke.

This is not the first time Coke and Waze have joined forces. Earlier this year, Mr. T’s voice helped navigate app users while touting the deliciousness of ice-cold FUZE Iced Tea.

This is, however, the first time Santa's voice has been used for such purposes.

Coca-Cola has a long history of inspiring the look and sound of Santa, having first created the jolly vision of Santa through artist Haddon Sundblom’s 1930s advertising illustrations. As recently as the 1990s, Santa’s voice bellowed merrily bellowed in Coca-Cola TV commercials.

“We’ve previously used the voice of Santa, but we’ve never used it in an app like this, taking jolly old Saint Nick and placing him in a digital world," said Coca-Cola Archivist Ted Ryan. "We don’t want to recreate the past, but we can learn from it and be grounded in what’s been done before. Taking Santa Claus to the digital age is the next evolution of the Coca-Cola Santa.”

To conceive this iteration, the team behind the Santa/Waze voice worked with Ryan to identify elements of Santa’s voice in past Coca-Cola ads that made Santa quintessentially Santa.

Alessandra Cascino, who helped lead the effort to digitize the iconic voice, says, “Santa still had to sound like the jolly man we heard in the Coca-Cola Archives, with a deep and soothing baritone. We intended to keep that iconic voice but to give him a modern connetion with Waze users.”

With so many drivers on the road, the holidays can be filled with rough commutes. Cascino hopes the reimagined Coca-Cola Santa can bring drivers joy along the way.

“However cheesy it may sound," she concludes, "we want to give Waze users a holly, jolly experience during their drive that only Coca-Cola can provide."
