The world is constantly changing and protecting the environment has become more critical than ever. Part of our mission at Coca-Cola is to leave a lasting positive impact in our world so that all future generations can enjoy a cleaner planet. That’s why sustainability and protecting the environment is such an important part of our business.

From the bottling plant to that first refreshing sip, the journey of every Coca-Cola product depends on natural resources in many ways. Being good water stewards, creating innovative, more sustainable packaging and using energy wisely are all ways we intentionally enhance our operations. At The Coca-Cola Company, we’re focused on facilitating positive environmental change rather than just minimizing negative impact.

We take steps to replenish and restore the natural resources required to manufacture and distribute our products, and we partner with other companies and organizations to make our efforts even more impactful. We created a video on our sustainability efforts in North America to pull back the curtain on how we work as a company and with partners to preserve and protect the environment.

While we have many goals that fall within our We, Me, World framework, in the area of sustainability we are focused on three specific areas: water, packaging innovation and recovery and climate and energy protection. For each, we work with local and national partners to find efficiencies and restore balance to resources. For example, through our water stewardship efforts, we are on track to meet our goal of 100% replenishment of the water we use thanks to partnerships with the U.S. Forest Service, World Wildlife Fund, The Nature Conservancy and others. In the area of packaging, we are focused on making our bottles and cans more sustainable. Our PlantBottle package is the first ever fully recyclable package made with up to 30% plant-based materials. We also work with organizations to provide communities with easier access to recycle our packaging and educate them on the importance of recycling. Regarding climate protection, we continue to make energy-saving investments like the reduction of greenhouse emissions in our equipment and distribution trucking fleet.  You can learn more about our work in North America and globally in our 2014/2015 Sustainability Report.

We’re proud of our sustainability efforts but know we have more to do – and we can’t do it alone. That’s why we work with partners and key stakeholders like those in our video to extend support and produce real results in communities across North America. Our company deeply believes that we can do more together in partnership with other change-makers and innovators than we could ever accomplish alone. Collaboration is the key to making lasting change for the future. We hope you’ll join us in our efforts.
