Ever wonder what goes on inside a Coca-Cola bottling plant? Join us on a virtual tour of a Bowen & Bowen bottling facility in Belize, built just a few years ago. On our tour, we’ll take an end-to-end look at how our products are produced, packaged and distributed.
The entire bottling process begins with incoming supplies – in this case, bottle closures: the cap you unscrew to enjoy a Coke.
All plants need to secure a reliable supply of freshwater – once in the plant, all water is treated to a high standard. Pressure and flow measurement are but two of numerous controls in the process.
Numerous water quality tests in a sophisticated laboratory help ensure our products are safe and company standards are being met.
The plant receives these test tube-like plastic vials. Believe it or not, these will become a plastic contour bottle!
Here’s where those small preforms become bottles. Each preform drops into a steel mould and hot air is blown in to create the bottle. This happens very quickly, as you can tell from the rate the preforms are dropping into the line.
The Secret Formula
Here’s where the magic happens: the secret formula meets water and bubbles to fill those bottles.
The contour tells you what’s inside – the label proudly displays all the details.
Bottles on Line
Finished product – ahhhh. Next up: preparing to head over to secondary packaging.
Cases are swaddled to protect the precious cargo and make shipping easier.
Wrapped cases are stacked on pallets, headed to the warehouse. We’re almost there!
Here, product is ready for incoming orders and shipment out on trucks to our local customers.
Return to Nature
The unfortunate water that did not become part of a Coke gets a thorough cleaning in a state of the art wastewater treatment system before discharge to the local river, in this case, the Rio Belize. Bowen & Bowen takes great pride in the high quality of water it returns to nature, which is of a better quality than it was when originally taken out of the river.
