People Can Quench Their Thirst and Donate To American Red Cross
ATLANTA - This fall, Coca-Cola is providing a unique way to not only add some happiness to your day, but also to those in need. As part of a pilot program, select Coca-Cola Interactive Vendors in Atlanta will provide people with the option to make a donation to the American Red Cross, the nation's premier emergency response organization.
The vendors are in place at the following locations: Arbor Place, Discover Mills, Gwinnett Place, Lenox Square Mall, Phipps Plaza, Mall of Georgia and Town Center.
The technology enables people to make a specified donation using a credit or debit card following the purchase of a Coca-Cola beverage. Not thirsty but still want to donate? People are able to make a contribution without a purchase by selecting the donation application on the vending screen.
"Using our existing group of interactive vending machines, this donation application gives our charity partners, like the American Red Cross, the chance to directly engage with thousands of people," says Thomas A. Barlow, senior vice president, Vending/Wholesale, Coca-Cola Refreshments. "Through this technology, we're connecting worthwhile philanthropic organizations to our most valuable asset - the Coca-Cola drinker."
This initiative supports the Company's global commitment to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The global partnership is focused on an increase in collaborative disaster response and preparedness as well as public engagement. By leveraging the power of Coca-Cola's marketing and vending equipment, the American Red Cross has potential to capture new donors and provide existing donors with a new vehicle for philanthropic engagement.
"When Coca-Cola founder Asa Candler, then mayor of our city, faced the Great Atlanta Fire of 1917, he looked to the Atlanta Red Cross to provide aid to the 1,500 families who lost their homes," said Terri Badour-Duckett, Chief Executive Officer of the Atlanta and Georgia Region Red Cross. "Today, nearly a century later, Coca-Cola continues to partner with the Red Cross through the unique and exciting Interactive Vendor program and we are truly thankful for their ongoing support."
