As a company that has been part of the fabric of American communities for more than 130 years, our focus on sustainability starts with the good our more than 90,000 system associates can do locally in the thousands of communities where they live, work and play across the United States and Canada.

From replenishing water in national forests to sponsoring recycling initiatives to supporting female entrepreneurs and college education, our people were active in 2017 making a difference in the communities they serve. Of note:

  • We again replenished 100 percent of the water we used in our beverages through water efficiency projects and critical community watershed partnerships.*
  • We continued to work with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the USDA Forest Service, building on our milestone of replenishing 1 billion liters of water through projects in 10 national forests since 2013 – an amount we plan to double by the end of 2018.
  • In partnership with Walmart, Nestlé Waters North America and PepsiCo, we renewed our commitment to public schools in Flint, Michigan as they continue to pursue access to safe drinking water.
  • In Canada, Coca-Cola Canada and WWF-Canada partnered on the WWF Restoration Fund to promote freshwater health in Saint John, New Brunswick; Salt Spring Island, British Columbia; and Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Projects center on improving habitats for species at risk and other wildlife, and on communities in highly-stressed freshwater ecosystems.
  • We reached a milestone in our ongoing efforts to promote and improve recycling of our packages with the placement of the 1 millionth recycling bin in the United States, helping divert an estimated 700 million pounds of recyclables from landfills annually.

In 2017, we also completed an unprecedented refranchising initiative in the U.S., returning ownership of our bottling operations to where they belong and best perform – with local, independent operators. This initiative has accelerated our ability to create and stimulate economic opportunity at a local level and to better connect to local communities’ needs.

"We introduced a storytelling initiative called “Coca-Cola Renew” to reintroduce our company in the United States as more than the maker of the world’s best-known beverage, but also a business that is dedicated to strengthening and refreshing local communities."

In tandem with this historic milestone, we introduced a storytelling initiative called “Coca-Cola Renew” to reintroduce our company in the U.S. as more than the maker of the world’s best-known beverage, but also a business that is dedicated to strengthening and refreshing local communities. #CocaColaRenew highlights the people who make and sell our beverages locally, our expanded portfolio with more innovative and low- and no-sugar options, the empowering scholarships and grants we provide, and our commitment to sustainable communities.

Even with all we accomplished in 2017, we know there is always more to do. We’ll continue to challenge ourselves as we strive to serve our communities in all that we do. Learn more about the actions we and our bottlers are taking through the map below and visit #CocaColaRenew.
