Did you know that the first television commercial for
Coca-Cola aired on CBS Thanksgiving Day in 1950? It was part of a television program featuring the humor of Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy that was sponsored by Coca-Cola. The stars, Edgar Bergen (the ventriloquist) and Charlie McCarthy (his puppet), were loved by the American public and also featured in this Coca-Cola poster from 1949, the year Coca-Cola began sponsoring the program on CBS Sunday Evenings. Fast forward from CBS Sunday Evenings in 1949 to CBS Sunday Morning this week. On this Sunday, July 15th, CBS Sunday Morning will air a segment about the history of Coca-Cola and the contour bottle.
