Like many Americans, I spent most of New Year’s Day watching parades and football games. When I came back to work, I remembered that The Minute Maid Company had sponsored floats in the Tournament of Roses Parade during the 1960s, shortly after The
Coca-Cola Company had acquired Minute Maid and its other juice brands. A quick review of the Minute Maid Collection yielded photographs of the conceptual drawing and the actual float that appeared in the 1964 Parade. Titled “The United States: Symbol of World Freedom,” the float featured cast members Ernest Borgnine and Joe Floyd of the popular McHales Navy television comedy. I also discovered the Parade Program from the 1965 Parade, also sponsored by Minute Maid.
