Large-scale, effective prevention of overweight and obesity remains a pressing public health priority given its adverse impact on health and quality of life, including associated risks with certain non-communicable diseases (e.g. diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cancer).

In view of current estimates suggesting the majority of the world's adults will be overweight or obese by 2030, it is important that multi-sectorial efforts to reverse this trend be identified and applied. The Ensemble Prévenons l'Obésité Des Enfants (EPODE, Together Let's Prevent Childhood Obesity) is a large-scale, coordinated, capacity-building network approach for communities to implement effective and sustainable strategies to address this challenge.

EPODE comprises four critical components: political commitment, public and private partnerships, community-based actions, and evaluation. The multi-stakeholder approach promoted through the EPODE methodology has now been implemented in 29 countries and has helped reduce childhood obesity by 10 percent in pilot towns in France, and 22 percent in pilot towns in Belgium.

As a founding partner of the EPODE International Network (EIN) since its creation in 2011, The Coca-Cola Company is proud to help support the spread of EIN's global mission to reduce the prevalence of childhood obesity and its associated health risks.
