Carly Rae Jepsen, whose pop smash “Call Me Maybe” topped the charts last summer, is putting her next hit in her fans’ hands.
Jepsen, who competed on Canadian Idol in 2007, jumped at the chance to give fans a virtual seat at her her songwriting table.
“I know even with this past year, it's been a big part of my process, hearing what the fans love,” she told MTV News. “And it seemed like a crazy challenge to write a song with three different versions to it and allow the fans to kind go choose their favorite and help me create not only that, but the performance itself."
Coca-Cola Perfect Harmony debuted in 2011 with Taio Cruz and continued in 2012 with Jason Derulo. This year’s campaign features a few new twists. In addition to having a say on Jepsen’s lyrics, fans can weigh in on aspects like set design, backup dancers’ wardrobe and stage effects.
“Some music fans are not quite as into lyrics, and may enjoy
more of the theater and experience of how a song comes to life onstage,”
explains Jessica Frankel, associate brand manager,
Jasmin Hodge, senior entertainment marketing manager for Coke's sparkling brands, called Jepsen the perfect fit for the program, which celebrates
emerging artists on the cusp of super-stardom.
“This collaboration feels right for several reasons,” Hodge says. “Carly is still in the early stages of her career, so she’s anxious to
make sure her fans know how much their support means to her. Also, she has a
vibe that’s optimistic, upbeat and positive… just like
Fans who make a selection will be entered into a sweepstakes to win Coca-Cola and American Idol goodies, including a grand prize trip for two to the season finale to see Jepsen perform the song live.
