Coca‑Cola focuses on protecting water resources, improving water efficiency, and supporting community resilience in water-stressed areas. Since 2015, we have met or exceeded our goal to return more than 100% of the water used in our finished beverages globally, on an aggregate level, to nature and communities*. We also aim to reach 100% replenishment in more than 200 high-risk locations (HRLs)** across our system by 2035. In 2025, 34% of high-risk locations individually met or exceeded 100% replenishment.**

** Locations were identified following an extensive analysis updated in 2024 using the World Resources Institute Aqueduct 4.0 tool and Coca‑Cola system level assessments of each production facility.
*** The percentage of HRLs with replenish ≥100% is determined by dividing the number of HRLs with replenish ≥100% by the total number of HRLs that are mapped to the company’s 2035 goal. HRL Water Replenished is the ratio of replenish program volumetric benefits (located within HRL minor basins and/or their water supply watersheds) divided by the total water use of the HRL. Global production facilities and co-located distribution centers and co-located offices are included in the HRL water use.
Most Coca‑Cola packaging is designed to be recyclable, and the company continues working toward making all primary consumer packaging recyclable.

Yes, Coca‑Cola bottle caps are technically recyclable and designed to work with most recycling systems. Most recyclers use a float/sink process where PET bottles sink and the closures and labels float. For this reason, consumers are encouraged to empty bottles and replace the caps before recycling to help minimize litter and improve sorting. Recycled cap materials can be used in products such as paint pails and battery casings.
Coca‑Cola is working to reduce packaging waste by increasing recycled materials, using lightweight packaging designs where appropriate, investing in collection and recycling infrastructure, and expanding refillable packaging options. We offer beverages in a variety of packaging formats to give consumers more choices. These formats include glass and plastic bottles, aluminum cans and refillable packaging.
The collection and recycling of beverage packaging remains complex. Systems, infrastructure, regulations and consumer behavior vary widely by country and state. We promote and catalyze collective action to support collection and recycling infrastructure and policies. The company supports policies such as well-designed Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and Deposit Return Schemes (DRS), which can help improve collection rates and recycling outcomes. These systems are often the most effective ways to improve packaging collection rates.
Coca‑Cola is investing in lighter‑weight packaging and increasing the use of recycled PET (rPET) to reduce the use of virgin plastic. For example, lighter‑weight PET bottles have been introduced across parts of its beverage portfolio in North America.

Coca‑Cola uses refillable glass and plastic bottles in many markets around the world, which helps reduce waste and emissions. We offer beverages in a variety of packaging formats – glass, aluminum and plastic bottles, aluminum cans and refillable packaging. Each option can play a role in helping reduce packaging waste and associated emissions. We tailor our refillable packaging approach by market, based on local conditions, and we intend to continue to invest in refillable packaging where infrastructure already exists.
In 2025, Coca‑Cola, with support from The Coca‑Cola Foundation and bottling partners, returned 160% of the water used in its finished beverages back to nature and communities. We have successfully met or exceeded our 100% replenishment goal every single year since 2015.
In 2025, the Coca‑Cola system water use ratio was 1.77 liters of water used per liter of beverage. This represents an 11% improvement in overall water use efficiency across the system compared to 2015.
Because water challenges are local, we prioritize local initiatives to increase water security. Coca‑Cola is working to reduce emissions by increasing renewable electricity, improving energy efficiency, investing in energy-efficient coolers, using more recycled materials, and working with suppliers across its value chain to help reduce emissions. As part of these efforts, the company aims to reduce its emissions in line with a 1.5°C trajectory by 2035, from a 2019 baseline. Systemwide renewable electricity usage increased from 28% in 2024 to 33% in 2025.
