David Guetta and Nicky Romero Debut Experimental New Music Video for 'Metropolis' Directed by Mr Brainwash

10-19-2012

Los Angeles-based Filmmaker and critically acclaimed pop artist Mr Brainwash has directed his first ever music video for GRAMMY award-winning DJ and producer David Guetta's latest club hit 'Metropolis', co-produced with rising superstar Nicky Romero.  Made possible by burn - a leading energy drink from The Coca‑Cola Company -- the video is a creative collision of art and music.

In an exclusive partnership with VEVO, the video for 'Metropolis' will premiere at 12pm GMT, on October 19 at http://www.youtube.com/burn. Inspired by David Guetta's passion for street art realized by the craziness of Mr Brainwash, together with boutique agency Deviant Ventures and What A Music, the video is a frenzied fusion of shape and color. Mr Brainwash creates a montage of images made up of fragments of vinyl and guitars before DJ superstar David Guetta is seen playing an explosive gig to a crowd of revellers.

David Guetta says, "After making a really cool movie Nothing But the Beat with burn last year, I wanted to take things further and create a music video for my electronic track 'Metropolis' with Nicky Romero. We wanted this video to combine street art and music and I knew of Mr Brainwash from many years ago so asked him to direct it. He had followed street artists in their undercover world, shooting them at night. You never know what you're going to get with him, so I wasn't sure what to expect. He's a crazy guy, and it's a crazy video and what we created is nothing like what we originally imagined, but I love it. It's fantastic that the whole thing has been one big experiment to try out new ways to be creative with music and art."

Mr Brainwash says, "My vision for art is all about trying new things without any limits.  This is my first music video so when burn and David asked me to come on board I knew I wanted to make it a colorful, artistic collision of both music and art."

Explaining his inspiration behind the video, Brainwash continued "My creative inspiration for the video was to take old objects like records and TVs, which have been used to play music in the past, and make them beautiful again by turning them into pieces of art.  It has been an interesting project, working with David Guetta and Nicky Romero, we are all three different people with three very different characters who think differently, but burn has brought us together to help us merge our creativity and create something new that has never been done before."

Impressed by Nicky Romero's charismatic personality and natural talent, David Guetta signed up the young Dutch DJ and producer earlier this year. The collaborative track 'Metropolis' has been a favorite in clubs across the world throughout the summer and features on the repackaged edition of Guetta's global hit album 'Nothing But The Beat'.

Nicky Romero says, "No one has taught Mr Brainwash how to make a music video.  He has been asked by burn because he loves music and he loves art. It's very exciting because he is coming at this with a fresh way of thinking so the video was always going to be different from the usual cars and girls that you normally see on music TV."

The music video for 'Metropolis' is the latest creative output of the partnership between burn and David Guetta which last year saw the release of 'Nothing But The Beat,' a film documenting the award winning producer's meteoric rise from underground clubs to the top of the charts. The track is released on JackBack Records, David's electronic label. It is also included on Nothing But The Beat 2.0.

Dan White, Group Category Director for Energy Drinks at The Coca‑Cola Company said, "Burn wants to give world-class talent the platform to ignite their creativity in a different way. The main objective of this collaboration was to give those artists the chance to inspire fans of art and music to express their own talents.  From David Guetta and Mr Brainwash to the  crowd that took part in the filming of this music video, the energy for this project has been electric and we are looking forward to seeing the reaction to the final video creative."

About Nicky Romero

At age 23 Nicky has proved himself not only behind the decks, but also in the studio. As a multifaceted musician, Romero's daring productions have taken him into the studio with the likes of the worlds most sought after electronic and hip-hop acts like David Guetta, Tiesto, Avicii, Sydney Samson, Kelly Rowland, Eva Simmons, Usher, Madonna, and a mentorship under the famed Fedde Le Grand.

2012 has been a year emblematic of a world's top-tier DJ. Aside "Wild One Two", the anthemic collaboration with David Guetta and Sia under the newly established record label Jack Back, Nicky has released countless other dance floor juggernauts such as "Toulouse", "Generation 303", and "Camorra". Unlike like many other producers, each of Romero's releases reasserts the claim that he is here to stay.

As for futureproductions, we can look for collaborations with Axwell,NERVO, and Calvin Harris. Since 2009, Nicky has been in the spotlight, but as we enter a new stage of electronic dance music, where only the most versatile survive, we can bet Romero will be a respected leader as he takes EDM into its "Golden Age. www.nickyromero.com // twitter.com/nickyromero // facebook.com/djnickyromero // soundcloud.com/nickyromero
